The Secretary of State, our nation’s chief diplomat, represents America’s interests around the world and provides leadership to address the most pressing challenges facing our country.
On day one, the Secretary of State must be prepared to bring foresight and diplomacy to any number of global conflicts, economic crises and natural disasters. I am gravely concerned that Rex Tillerson’s lack of foreign policy experience and extensive ties to the Kremlin will prevent him from placing the interests of the American people first and protecting our interests abroad.
Wednesday’s hearing revealed what we have known all along: conflicts of interest and unprecedented catering to specials interests will be the new norm in Republican-controlled Washington. I strongly oppose this nomination.
