This is the 11th emergency spending bill put in place pending a final budget agreement, due ten weeks ago.
New York State Senate Democratic Leader, John Sampson was correct in his assessment that the majority of State legislators would vote in favor of the latest emergency spending bill. Last night, Republicans stood with Democrats to pass the latest emergency spending bill, which will keep New York State up and running for at least another week. This is the 11th emergency spending bill put in place pending a final budget agreement, due ten weeks ago.
The spending plan, which passed in the State Senate 34–27, cuts more than $327 million in mental health programs and other social services.
Approval of this latest installment of emergency spending has enabled legislators to close over $1 billion of New York’s $9.2 billion deficit.
According to Governor Paterson, a final budget agreement is far from reach and the possibility of a halt in New York State government still exists.
