Doctor Dré, the music producer, rap singer and host of MTV’s Yo! MTV Raps, joined health activists on the steps of City Hall today on World Diabetes Day to announce the Cut It Out & Step Up NY campaign to end New York’s soaring rate of diabetes-related lower-limb amputations, and demand support for programs that can help diabetics combat and even reverse the disease.
Doctor Dré, who grew up as André Brown in Westbury, LI, lost his eyesight and had his right leg amputated as a result of uncontrolled diabetes, and is dedicated to reaching people with the message they can keep themselves from facing the complications that he did.
Chris Norwood, the Executive Director of Bronx-based Health People, will unveil a call to require all state hospitals to prepare an amputation reduction plan to reverse the doubling of diabetes-related lower-limb amputations in the last decade.
