The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed its opposition to the Trump administration’s push for the Supreme Court to end birthright citizenship.

The US Supreme Court began hearing arguments on Thursday in Donald Trump’s attempt to broadly enforce his executive order to limit birthright citizenship.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We welcome the clear and strong arguments delivered before the Supreme Court today by opponents of the Trump administration’s dangerous and unconstitutional push to end birthright citizenship. Every person born in the United States is obviously subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, aside from a limited category related to diplomats. Reversing this clear constitutional precedent would undermine the basic definition of what makes a person American. We encourage the Supreme Court to reject this unprecedented move to end birthright citizenship.”
