Veteran journalist Ojinika “Oji” Obiekwe won a $2.4 million federal retaliation lawsuit against PIX11 News and Nexstar Media Group.
After 22 years of early mornings, on-air poise, and Emmy-winning work on New York television, veteran entertainment anchor Ojinika “Oji” Obiekwe took her fight to court and secured a landmark $2.4 million victory.
On July 21, 2026, a federal jury sided with former PIX11 News anchor Ojinika “Oji” Obiekwe, ordering the station and its parent company, Nexstar Media Group, to pay more than $2.4 million in damages. The verdict concluded a major discrimination and retaliation trial, finding that the network unlawfully penalized Obiekwe after she challenged unequal treatment and a demanding workload she said was racially disparate.
Obiekwe, who hosted the O-List interview segment on PIX11 Morning News, told reporters outside the courtroom, “Here we are. Victory.”
In the historic victory, the court awarded Obiekwe $1,137,000 in compensatory damages for emotional distress and $1,280,000 in punitive damages.
Obiekwe is the leader of global storytelling and strategy through the B.O.O.P. Group of Companies, which operates in Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United States.
