Washington, D.C. – Thursday, after a Michigan synagogue was attacked by an armed gunman, Ben Olinsky, senior vice president of Structural Reform and Governance at the Center for American Progress, issued the following comments:
This was yet another despicable act of antisemitism that has no place in America. It comes after three synagogues in the greater Toronto area were struck by gunfire earlier this month. Leaders at every level must condemn this assault on these houses of worship and speak out against attacks on the Jewish community. Law enforcement must place a high priority on prosecuting these hate crimes and holding the perpetrators fully accountable.
Editor’s Note: The Michigan mosque attacker, Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, is said to have lost numerous family members in an Israeli bombing–earlier this year, in Lebanon.
