VP Records is launching a series of fourth quarter “pop-up” retail events at its newly redesigned store at 170-21 Jamaica Ave in Jamaica, Queens. Every Saturday from October 5 to December 21, 2024, from 11 AM to 6 PM, the series will feature art and crafts celebrating Reggae and Jamaican culture.

The first event, Reggae Bloodlines – The Reggae Photography of Peter Simon, 1976–1985, will showcase original images of Reggae’s biggest names. This installation highlights the photographer’s working prints from his landmark book, Reggae Bloodlines, marking the first time these prints have been publicly displayed. Guests can explore 36 selected images, complete with Simon’s handwritten notes—ranging from subject names to crop marks—offering a rare glimpse into his creative process.

Peter Simon’s pivotal role in introducing Jamaican Reggae to the U.S. was recognized by Jamaica’s Ministry of Culture. His 1977 publication, Reggae Bloodlines, remains a cornerstone of the global Reggae music community.

Simon’s connection with VP Records co-founder Pat Chin dates back to the mid-1970s, when the Chin family ran Randy’s Record Mart, a vital hub for retail and distribution in Kingston. His photography has since been featured on album covers, promotional materials, and Reggae publications, significantly shaping the visual representation of the genre.
