U.S. Army veteran Leonard Parker Jr., 53, was killed by police in Mississippi on February 1, 2020. Over one year later, the family is still searching for answers as to why police shot him to death.

“I think when you take a person’s life, you owe the family at the very least that much: you owe the family a very basic explanation of what led to this death.”

The family of Black U.S. Army veteran Leonard Parker Jr. killed by Gulfport police feel his case would have been treated differently if there was video.

But no bystanders recorded, and the officer’s body cam wasn’t turned on. So how do things play out when someone is killed by law enforcement in Mississippi?
