July 22- Washington D.C. – One of the largest unions in the United States, the United Auto Workers (UAW) has announced that it will be joining the mass mobilization on Wednesday July 24 in Washington D.C. to reject the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and call for an immediate end to all U.S. military aid to Israel. The demonstration will begin at 11:00 a.m. at 3rd St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW. The union has called on members of UAW, labor organizers, and people of conscience across the country to join Wednesday’s protest.

Netanyahu was invited to address the U.S. Congress by lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties and is also set to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden. A wide range of community, progressive and faith-based organizations across the U.S. have firmly rejected the visit of the Israeli leader who has overseen the brutal, genocidal war in Gaza wherein over 40,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks.

The UAW has joined hundreds of organizations participating in the national demonstration which has been organized by dozens of Arab-American, Muslim, and progressive organizations from across the U.S.

Brandon Mancilla, a member of the UAW’s International Executive Board will be speaking at Wednesday’s mobilization on behalf of the union.

Regarding its participation in the national demonstration, the UAW stated: “Since December, the UAW has been calling for a ceasefire in Israel and Palestine, and for an end to the war on Gaza. This week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to come to Congress to ask our government to keep supporting this war. We reject this insult to all those calling for peace and justice. On Wednesday, July 24th, the UAW, along with the National Labor Network for Ceasefire, is joining a mass mobilization in Washington, DC to oppose Netanyahu’s visit, and to call for an end to all US military aid to this war.”
