Sony’s Concord Shooter Game Discontinued After Just Two Weeks After its Launch

Sony has declared that it is taking back the online shooter game Concord from sale just two weeks after its launch. The game will be discontinued from 6th, September 2024. After the big success of Helldivers, Sony gamble big on Concord, now being flaunted as the biggest flop of 2024. The first-person hero shooter launched exclusively on PS5 and PC on August 23rd, but estimations have put sales at under 25,000.

Announcing on Sony’s PlayStation blog post website, game director Ryan Ellis of developer Firewalk Studios, said that the game would be taken offline from the first week of September 2024. He further said other options are open for us but for now, we are determined on the best path which best for our player. He also announced that the company will begin to offer refunds for those who already purchased the game for PS5 or PC.

If anyone purchased the game for PS5 from the Play Station Store the refund method will be the same as your original purchase method. If you purchased the game through the Steam or Epic Game store the refund will be made in the coming days.

Reasons for Concord Game Failure

Concord also known as Hero Shooter is a game similar to popular games like Overwatch and Valorant. In this game, players join forces to form a team of characters with unique skills. They can choose to battle it out in intense deathmatches or participate in different game modes where the goal is to capture objectives or dominate specific areas of the arena.

  • Concord is a recently released game developed by Sony.
  • It has been in development for 8 years.
  • The game has received mixed reviews, with praise for its graphics and gameplay but criticism for its lack of originality.
  • According to SteamDB, the game’s peak concurrent player count was only 660.
  • This is significantly lower than the most popular game, Counter-Strike 2, which has consistently had over 1 million concurrent players.
  • This suggests that Concord failed to make a significant impact on the multiplayer market.

Concord feels very similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, with the same retro-futuristic style. The characters seem like they were designed to be unique, but they look a lot like Dax, Starlord, and even Dr. Strange. The story is interesting, but it’s a bit confusing. It follows a group of misfits who join a prestigious group called the FreeGunners. They fight other groups and even each other, and the story is told in episodes.

The game is well-made, with great voice acting, visuals, and performances. The characters are interesting, but the first episode doesn’t explain the story very well. Strangely, these likable characters are fighting each other. It might have been more fun if the game was like One Piece, where teams compete for goals or rewards. Helldivers is another game where teams work together on missions.

The Future of Concord

In his message, Ryan Ellis said that Sony’s recent multiplayer game, Concord, has faced challenges despite its eight-year development. While it received mixed reviews for its graphics and gameplay, many criticized its lack of originality. The game’s performance on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count of only 660, further highlights its struggles. Despite the developer’s efforts and the positive aspects of the game, Concord failed to capture the multiplayer market in the way Sony intended.

Concord is a fun game to play, especially if you like trying out different characters. Each character has distinct capacities that make them exceptional. The levels are well-designed, and the game looks great. However, not many people are playing it right now, and it might be expensive to buy. It’s probably best to wait until it becomes free to play.
