A major technical glitch has led to ChatGPT being out of action, thus cutting off millions of clients across the planet and hitting OpenAI’s API and other services. The breakdown has, in turn, led to a crisis all around the board with consumers taking to social media to voice their grievances and perplexity. Some of them have admitted the problems that their logins are taking longer and the performance has deteriorated, while others even expressed worries about being unable to see their history and data soon. Not only has it impacted individual users but businesses as well, having been been relying on OpenAI’s API, that brought out the need for reliable technology infrastructure.
This isn’t the first time ChatGPT has been through a major outage. It has gone irregularly before then, since December as a result of technical failure. Consequently, the current disconnection has been a cause of many complaints; more than 1,000 reports have been filed to Downdetector, a tracking platform of failures. People will not calm down until the service problem is settled, and some of them are even willing to try the services of alternative AI chatbots.
On a related note, there was a tussle between Elon Musk and OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, over the Stargate AI infrastructure project, which was recently unveiled by President Donald Trump. One of its key aspects is a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, that aims to secure an initial private investment of $100 billion which could eventually rise to $500 billion. Yet, Musk has doubted the worthiness of the investment, mentioning that the companies in question do not have the necessary funds regardless. The tension between Musk and Altman is not a new thing as they have indeed seen eye to eye on several issues such as OpenAI’s board and the development of AI technology.
