Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), will deliver the eulogy for Tyre Nichols at his funeral in Memphis next Wednesday, with attorney Ben Crump set to deliver a call to action.
It starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, at 70 N Bellevue Blvd in Memphis.
The news comes amid police protests against racist police violence and the arrests of the five Black Memphis police officers who were criminally charged for relentlessly beating Nichols after he fled a traffic stop on January 7.
The 29-year-old father died of his injuries three days later, leaving behind a 4-year-old son.
Attorneys Crump and Antonio Romanucci commissioned an independent autopsy that was conducted last week. In a statement, they said the preliminary findings showed “extensive bleeding caused by a severe beating, and that his observed injuries are consistent with what the family and attorneys witnessed on the video of his fatal encounter with police” earlier this month.
