President Joe Biden has just announced that he is dropping out of the 2024 Presidential Election race–following weeks of pressure, from leaders in the Democratic Party, after his disastrous debate performance with Donald Trump in June.

In a letter posted on X, President Biden said: “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president.” Biden stated that, “while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Biden said he would address the nation later in the week.

Biden also said, “let me express my greatest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected…And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.”

President Biden, in what may be a handing of the torch to Vice-President Kamala Harris, thanked her saying she had been an “extraordinary partner in all this work.”

The Hill is reporting that Biden has endorsed Harris.

This is a breaking news story.
