New York, NY (Monday, April 18, 2022) – The family of Patrick Lyoya has asked Civil Rights leader and National Action Network founder Rev. Al Sharpton to deliver the eulogy for their son this Friday after the unarmed Black man was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Benjamin Crump, America’s Trial Attorney for Justice, is representing the Lyoya family and will make a call to action during the services.

Cellphone video by a passenger in Lyoya’s car shows the officer shooting the 26-year-old in the back of the head on April 4th while on his hands and knees, facing the ground. The Grand Rapids Police Department released the disturbing video nine days later, sparking national outrage.
Lyoya moved to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2014 and tirelessly worked to support his family. Rev. Sharpton and the National Action Network have vowed to help the family cover his funeral costs. The funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22nd 11 a.m. at Renaissance Church of God in Christ 1001 33rd Street SE Grand Rapids, MI 49508
