Washington D.C. – There is no end in sight for the worst measles crisis in 35 years. Pennsylvania health officials confirm that cases have now surpassed 1,000, with five deaths, while New York has declared a statewide emergency as cases there exceed 100. Meanwhile, the Trump CDC refuses to even acknowledge most of the reported measles deaths, to the ire of Gov. Josh Shapiro: “RFK is playing games with people’s lives here in Pennsylvania.”

The cavalry is not coming from the science-denying, death-ignoring, anti-vax Trump administration.
As the measles situation continues to deteriorate, Donald Trump and RFK Jr. are too busy: 1) pushing an executive order designed to make the life-saving measles vaccine less accessible and more expensive; 2) defending their deadly downgrade of the CDC child vaccine schedule in federal court; 3) delivering frothy-mouthed speeches stoking more unfounded fear about vaccines; and 4) attending a ribbon cutting for a new NIH clinic to “study” vaccine injuries and manufacture dubious conclusions that challenge the overwhelmingly scientific consensus that vaccines are safe and effective (funding for the clinic is unclear, but don’t be surprised if Secretary Kennedy raids critical resources like when he recently siphoned money from the Office of Minority Health to pay for his beefed up security entourage.)
“The deadly measles crisis is a five-alarm fire, but all Donald Trump and RFK Jr want to do is demonize hoses and water,” said Brad Woodhouse, president of Protect Our Care. “The more misinformation the White House spews about vaccines, the more parents opt their children out, and the more communities get sick with preventable disease. The simplest and safest solution to this mess is for the federal government to use every available resource to promote the measles vaccine. Instead, the administration is busy wasting tax dollars manufacturing bogus excuses for their anti-vax lies and actions — after the damage has already been done. Senate Republicans can express regret all they want for handing the health department keys to career anti-vaxxer RFK Jr, but that’s little consolation to communities plagued with a disease once thought eradicated.”
