September 25, 2023 (New York, NY) – Councilmember Carmen De La Rosa met with school administrators this Friday to present $200,000 allocated for bathroom upgrades in the city’s FY24 budget. This was the first school visit in the revitalized #CarmenVisits series.

#CarmenVisits is a series led by the Office of Councilmember De La Rosa to give schools across the district the opportunity to have meetings with the Councilmember’s office, tour schools, and identify needs on a one-on-one basis.

Many public schools are addressing prior budget cuts and managing the transition of 19,000 migrant students who have come into the public school system in the past year, bolstering the school population from previous drops in enrollment.

The Councilmember looks to offer additional support and attention through the visits, which are scheduled to happen on a weekly basis.

In the last budget, District 10 schools received a combined $7,850,000 in capital funding.
