Our Hero, Balthazar Review – A Dark Take on Social Media Crying

We all know the concept of crying and its Our Hero Balthazar review significance. Don’t we? It is a medium of expressing our emotions and hurt when we don’t have words for the work. However, this movie, ‘Our Hero, Balthazar,’ has cooked something else for us. It has introduced us to a new concept of crying, which this generation posts on their social media. What is it? Let’s find out.

Theme of ‘Our Hero, Balthazar’

As heroic as the title sounds, it is quite ironic how the character is the opposite of this. The character is compared to a monster of this generation who is faking everyone’s face. The character Balthazar is played by the talented actor Jaeden Martell, who will portray the rich kid with a non-attentive family. Balthazar is a kid based in New York with his mother, who is never available to him. His mother is more involved in throwing political parties and making connections than being there for her child. So, in boredom, the kid developed a serious habit of crying realistically for no reason. No one could figure out if he was faking crying until he was done with the video. It seems so disturbing and annoying to see a little kid posting a fake crying video to get sympathy from the audience.

New Tradition of the New Generation

As we discussed above, how much can the world evolve? The upcoming generations are coming up with more challenges for their parents. We know how and why we cry. However, if we are crying for sympathy, that too on the internet, it is a serious issue. It can become worse if this continues for an extended period. The makers have given a message through this story about the current trend among children. They just open their social media account and cry as if they are tortured, or how much they keep to themselves to gain sympathy and validation. In ‘Our Hero, Balthazar’, it looks like the boy wasn’t validated by his parents, due to which he turned towards social media and became content while seeking validation from the public.

It is scary what this generation is up to. Moreover, the director Oscar Boyson had a long thought about the concept before co-writing the script with Ricky Camilleri. He has emphasized a proper upbringing of children with love and support, as lacking it makes them ask for validation outside their zone. He calls this generation an exhibition that is turn-by-turn converted into a reality.

What Happens in the Movie?

Balthazar, or Balthy, as we mentioned, is a school student with habits. Moreover, his school was conducting trial classes to teach students how to dodge a school shooter who was on the school premises. However, Balthy used it as an opportunity to grow his bond with his crush, Eleanor, who is a bold girl. She finds out soon about Balthy’s fake crying habits and storms out of the house, calling him a ‘psycho’.

However, as we know, Balthy couldn’t take it and posted another video crying over a massacre that happened in a school by a school shooter. This was when a comment appeared on his post claiming himself a school shooter. As expected, our boy started talking to him, saying he was trying to stop another such incident, but it looked like something else.

That boy was named ‘Solomon’ who had as crappy upbringing as Balthy. Solomon was not a school shooter in truth, but he dreamed of becoming one, just as Balthy doesn’t care but dreams of caring for the victims of the massacre.

Conclusion

The makers gave a big message to the audience about the current trends on social media and discouraged supporting a person who could only be seen crying for validation. The people who can easily fake cry are the people you should trust the least.
