Nepal Earthquake: Magnitude 7.5 Strikes Tibet Border

The morning of Tuesday became a terrible nightmare for the People of Nepal. The people of Nepal were jolted on the morning of Tuesday at 6.35 AM due to Massive Earthquake. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was 93 km Northwest of Lobuche near the Nepal-Tibet border. On 7th January 2025, almost 53 people in Tibet died and 60 were injured in the massive earthquake. However, according to NCS data, that earthquake was followed by two more aftershocks. One was recorded at 7:02 AM IST of 4.7 magnitude, while the other was recorded at 7:07 AM IST of 4.9 magnitude. According to China’s earthquake monitoring agency, the quake was of magnitude 6.8. 

Nepal Earthquake 

The home of the towarding Himalayas, shook on Tuesday, 7th January 2025 morning due to a Massive earthquake. Alongside that, the active fault lines has crisscrossed the area resulting in frequent earthquakes. Near the Himalayan region, the epicenter of the earthquake was 93 km northeast of Lobuche. Nepal–Tibet border felt a sudden jolt of a massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, also felt the tremendous quake. Shigatse experienced moderate damage as it is located only 169 km away from the epicenter. According to local time in Tibet, it was at 9:05 AM on Tuesday. People took various social media handles including X and posted about the massive earthquake. 

The residents of Kathmandu were woken up by tremors after that they ran out of their homes. Some of the states of India including Bihar and West Bengal also felt the earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at the Eurasian and Indian plates clash.Dhading and Kavrepalanchowk districts people also felt the earthquake. According to the National Center for Seismology, last month an earthquake of 4.8 magnitude struck Nepal early morning at 3:59 AM IST. The tremor shook the ground from a depth of 10 kilometers.

The Epicenter of the Nepal Earthquake 

The sudden shake was felt at 6:35 AM IST, according to the reports of the National Center for Seismology. The Epicenter of the earthquake was located at the latitude of 28.86 degree north and longitude of  87.51 degree East. At a depth of 10 kilometers, the epicenter of the earthquake was Xizang, Tibet. However, the expert and emergency response teams are closely monitoring the aftereffects of earthquakes in India as well as in Nepal. They have even urged the citizens to stay calm and prepared for the aftershocks.

 According to NCS’s data, people also fell two aftershocks of the quake in the morning. The first aftershocks were recorded at 7:02 AM IST of 4.7 Magnitude, the epicenter was at latitude 28.60 degrees north and longitude 87.68 degrees East. Moreover, the debt of the earthquake was 10 kilometers. The second one was recorded at 7:07 AM IST of 4.9 magnitude, the epicenter was at latitude 28.68 degrees north and longitude 87.54 degrees East. The debt of the earthquake was 30 kilometers.

Effect of Nepal Earthquake in India

Along with Nepal India also felt the sudden shake on the morning of Tuesday at 6:30 AM. People of Bihar and West Bengal felt the tremendous shaking. The people of Bihar’s Madhubani received a high shake. Other major cities like Siliguri, Patna, and New Delhi India experienced major tremors of 5.3 magnitude. The people of Guwahati also felt the tremendous earthquake. In the morning after the shake people were coming out of their houses and apartments . According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was 56 miles away from Lobuche. 

Effects of an Nepal Earthquake 

The environmental effects of an earthquake are surface faultation, tsunamis, landslides, ground resonance, soil liquefaction, and ground failure. Moreover, this natural phenomenon also takes away the life of many innocent people. Earthquakes leave a long-term impact on the life of people. They suffer from traumas related to death, building collapse, and injuries. This also leads to decreased productivity and increased cost of living. Earthquakes also have an economic effect on the lives of people. This natural disaster can occur anytime and anywhere. However, there are several man-made reasons for the occurrence of earthquakes. Some of them are mining, dam construction, explosions, and Hydrostatic Pressures. Recovery and reconstruction take a lot of time from the earthquake. This includes repairing dams, and infrastructure and helping people to rebuild their lives.

Apart from Nepal, the people of India also felt a sudden jolt on the morning of Tuesday because of the earthquake. According to reports almost 53 people in Tibet died and 60 were injured in the massive earthquake. Also, the aftermath of the earthquake is very heartbreaking. Many people die because of this natural phenomenon.
