Laurie Jacobson, writer and producer who was a very close friend of Jay North, took over her Facebook handle, confirming North’s family informed her and her husband about his death. She mentioned in her post how many of his fans know North had a difficult journey in Hollywood. However, she also added that he never let it define his life. The producer also said that the late actor had a heart as big as a mountain. She mentioned how his friends deeply loved him. Jacobson also said North used to call them frequently and ended every conversation telling them he loved them with all his heart. Jeannie Russell, North’s co-star, confirmed his cause of death as Colon Cancer and that he passed away peacefully in his Lake Butler, Florida, residence.

Jay North Hollywood Journey 

Jay North was born in Hollywood and got his first break on the silver screen at the age of 6. Dorothy née Cotton, his mother, who was a secretary at the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, arranged his appearance in his favorite show, “Cartoon Express.” Hazel MacMillan, a talent agent, spotted North and then ended up offering to represent him. North managed to grab several small roles in various shows, including “The George Gobel Show,” “The Eddie Fisher Show,” and “The Milton Berle Show.” In 1958, he auditioned for the TV adaptation of cartoonist Hank Ketcham’s comic strip “Dennis the Menace.” His first audition didn’t go as expected but he bagged the role in his second tryout.

His Revelation Of Suffering Physical And Emotional Abuse 

North gave an interview to the Los Angeles Daily News in 1993, revealing that his aunt Marie Hopper, who acted as his guardian when his mother was working, was physically and emotionally abusive. He explained in the interview how if a particular scene took him more than one or two takes, he would get threatened and then whacked. North added, explaining how even a delay wasn’t his fault, got him punished. He also stated how his aunt was pretty possessive, isolating him from the other cast members and making him eat lunch alone.

His Journey After The Cancellation of “Dennis the Menace”

“Dennis the Menace” continued running on TV for a total of 4 seasons, later getting canceled in 1963. After its cancellation, he took over the silver screen and featured in many comedy projects. His evergreen legacy also includes his role in projects like “Zebra in the Kitchen” and “Maya”. North also featured in a short-lived TV adaptation of “Maya,” which had 18 episodes. North also lent his voice to many characters in series like Arabian Knights,” “Here Comes the Grump,” and “The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show” in his late ’60s and early ’70s.
