I wanted to share some reflections from our recent event, “The Burning Truth,” where we came together to discuss the profound impact of historical tragedies like the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the 1955 murder of Emmett Till. The conversation was not just powerful—it was a call to action that deeply resonated with all of us.

One theme that stood out was the concept of power—the power to determine who holds a place in society and the power to enforce that through violence. This was vividly illustrated in the Tulsa case, where an entire community was annihilated with no accountability.

The destruction of 40 blocks, home to over ten thousand people, resulted in more than two hundred million dollars in property damage, with thousands of lives disrupted and unanswered questions lingering to this day.

We know that the pursuit of justice begins with uncovering the truth, which is why we are demanding that the Department of Justice open a federal criminal investigation pursuant to the Emmett Till Cold Case Act of 2008. Click here to join us in calling on the DOJ to act under the Emmett Till Cold Case Act. We need them to investigate these crimes, uncover the truth, and ensure that justice is finally served.

The story of Emmett Till, like that of Greenwood, is about more than just the individuals involved. It’s about a broader struggle for justice against entrenched systems of power.

When a community like Greenwood can be destroyed without repercussions, and when the murder of a child like Emmett Till can go unpunished, it sends a message that none of us are safe until we challenge and dismantle these systems.

Thank you for standing with us in this fight. Your support is critical as we continue to push for the truth and for justice. Together, we can make a difference.

In solidarity,
