Jersey’s Pride: Shauna Faith

Shauna: “Beauty is only skin deep, what really matters is brain power, she says. “There are so many successful unattractive actors and entertainers out there. Many people have to realize that being in this industry is not easy…

(Shauna Faith, New Jersey’s pride).

Where She’s From: Beautiful pride of New Jersey, Shauna Faith, was born in Brooklyn, to Jamaican, Scottish, and Indian parents, and moved across the river when she was one years old.

She grew up in Piscataway, New Jersey. “My parents influenced me with their actions, not what they told me,â€? she tells The Black Star News. “The number one thing I learned is to be solely independent. Do not depend on others–if you want something done, then do it yourself.â€?

Shauna attended La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA, for two years before transferring to Seton Hall University for her junior year, to study Business Communications and Information Technology. “At the end of my sophomore year in college I decided to enter the modeling game, she recalls. “I was meeting so many people at parties and on the street. I thought it could be a great hobby, not thinking anything long term. She started photo shoots, and more photo shoots. “I started getting jobs and getting paid. I was happy, she says. “I’ve been modeling for two years now and recently added acting to my repertoire.

Where She’s At: “Right now, I think I am just scratching the surface, Shauna confides. “I have so much to learn in this industry. I want to be a great overall entertainer.

She adds that it pays to have a thick skin in the business. “There are so many rejections in this field. I had to learn not to take it seriously, she explains. “Sometimes, it’s not you, it’s not them, it’s just not what they are looking for. If they are looking for a blonde with blue eyes, then they are surely not going to pick an exotic with hazel eyes. She adds. “And if they are looking for an exotic with hazel eyes, then they are looking for the best one, especially a great attitude and personality.

Aspiring models and actors have to do their homework and research if they want to separate themselves from the pack, Shauna says. “Beauty is only skin deep, what really matters is brain power, she says. “There are so many successful unattractive actors and entertainers out there.  Many people have to realize that being in this industry is not easy. One has to be alert motivated—you can’t just go out and wing it.  It may work once in a while, but if you want to take it seriously, you got to take it to another level.

Where’s She’s Heading: Shauna has modeled for Essence Magazine, Smooth Magazine, Modell’s, JC Penny Bellini Shoes, Rocawear, Hype Hair, Crest Jeans, and Boost Mobile, to name a few. She’s done commercials for BET, WB’s South Beach Style, and MTV. Moreover, she’s appeared in seven feature films, including parts in A Talent for Trouble directed by Marvis Johnson, Spider Man 3 starring Tobe Maguire, and Confessions starring Tamala Jones and Lynn Whitfield. Multi-talented Shauna is currently writing and producing her first two songs for an upcoming album to be released next year.
