Los Angeles, CA – In a momentous celebration of hip-hop’s enduring legacy, the 2024 Grammy Awards have honored the seminal rap group N.W.A. with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The prestigious accolade was presented by the iconic Bone Thugs-N-Harmony at The Recording Academy’s Special Merit Awards Ceremony, which took place Saturday Feb. 3, at the historic Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

Emerging from Compton, California, in the late 1980s, N.W.A.’s Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella captured the zeitgeist of their era, channeling their experiences into a revolutionary sound that would forever alter the course of music. Their unflinching narratives and potent beats laid the groundwork for the genre’s future and solidified their status as pioneers of hip-hop. In addition to presenting the award Bone Thugs-N-Harmony attributes their ongoing success to N.W.A after getting signed to Eazy-E label Ruthless Records 30 years ago.

The ceremony was a convergence of legends as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, with their own rich history in the genre, paid tribute to N.W.A.’s trailblazing contributions. Niggaz Wit Attitudes, also known as NWA, is a West Coast Hip-Hop group who became one of the most influential groups in Hip-Hop history. NWA included Eric “Eazy-E” Wright, Andre Ronell “Dr. Dre” Young, O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson Sr, Lorenzo “MC Ren” Jerald Patterson, Antoine “DJ Yella” Carraby, and Kim “Arabian Prince” Renard Nazel. The group was formed in 1987 after Wright founded the music record label Ruthless Records with Gerald Elliot “Jerry” Heller. Originally, NWA consisted of Eazy-E and Dr. Dre, but Arabian Prince, Ice Cube, and DJ Yella also joined the group.


Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, consisting of members Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone, is a pioneering American hip-hop group from Cleveland, Ohio. Formed in 1993, they quickly rose to fame with their unique style, becoming one of the most successful and influential hip-hop groups of the ’90s.
