Did you know that many corporations are helping bank-roll police violence and surveillance behind closed doors — all under the guise of donating to a non-profit “foundation”? Well, that’s exactly what’s happening in cities across the country.
Watch our new video explaining how corporations sponsor police violence.
Corporations including Amazon, Facebook, Disney, and Paramount provide sizable donations, and in many cases, also appear on the boards of local police foundations. These are the same companies that issued statements expressing “support” for the Black Lives Matter movement during the 2020 uprisings after George Floyd’s murder.
Corporations that sponsor police foundations can’t have it both ways: we must point out this hypocrisy. Watch our explainer video and find out how they are propping up police foundations and enabling police violence.
We know that overfunded, militarized police forces don’t keep us safe — and shadowy, corporate-funded police foundations put Black people in danger. As communities demand critical investments in health care, affordable housing, and economic opportunity —programs that actually keep us safe — police foundations funnel corporate cash to provide even more weapons and surveillance tools to police departments with bloated budgets. These police departments then use these corporate-funded weapons and surveillance tools to inflict further harm on Black people.
These wink-and-nod relationships between corporations and police foundations demonstrate the true purpose of policing: to protect power, property, and privilege. That’s why we will continue to call out police foundations and their corporate enablers, and bring attention to the damage they do to our communities. watch and share our new video now.
