The Billie Holiday Theatre at RestorationART, in association with Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company in Atlanta, presents Colman Domingo’s Dot in Central Brooklyn, home to the largest African-American community in the United States.

The Billie Holiday Theatre launches its 2018-2019 season with this compelling work under the direction of Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon (American Son currently on Broadway starring Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale, A Raisin in the Sun and August Wilson’s Fences on Broadway) and starring Emmy Award-winning Billie Holiday Theatre alumna Denise Burse (Black Mirror, The Old Settler). The play runs through November 18, 2018 at The Billie Holiday Theatre, 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11216.

Crackling with humor, Dot takes a light-hearted look at an illness facing all communities and explores the interactions of widowed matriarch Dotty and her family and mental health in the Black community. As Dotty struggles to hold onto her memory – a result of her Alzheimer’s diagnosis – her children must fight to balance care for their mother with care for themselves.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with the newly-reimagined Billie Holiday Theatre and to present True Colors’ production of Colman Domingo’s Dot to Brooklyn audiences,” said True Colors’ Artistic Director Kenny Leon. “The play allows us the opportunity to come together as community; not just as individuals, but as two theaters committed to the best, wisest and most challenging parts of ourselves and our stories. Dot is a story that will hit close to home for so many.”

“To curate storytelling in the epicenter of the largest African American community in the nation – Central Brooklyn – demands that we bring our audiences smart and soulful stories that matter,” said Dr. Indira Etwaroo, Executive Director, The Billie Holiday Theatre. “Colman Domingo’s Dot, helmed by Kenny Leon with a cast led by Denise Burse is an embarrassment of riches. Excellence and relevance are in the very DNA of this production and partnership and is a reflection of the kind of work we are committed to doing at the Billie.”

The Cast for Dot also includes Tinashe Kajese-Bolden as Shelly, Rhyn McLemore Saver as Jackie, Gilbert Glenn Brown as Donnie, Lee Osorio as Adam, Amber A. Harris as Averie, and Benedetto Robinson as Fidel.

The Creative Team for Dot includes Andre C. Allen (Lighting Designer), Matt Head (Sound Designer), Kathryn Muse (Props Designer), Jarrod Barnes (Costume Designer), Day Byrd (Wig Designer), and Tracy Thomas (Production Stage Manager).
