As we wind down this weekend and the nation celebrates its official birth with fireworks, barbecues and picnics, let’s remember to be safe.
In addition, while we celebrate it would be remiss to forget that in the era in which this holiday was formed. During this country’s quest for freedom so many, including African and Native Americans, were not free from legal subjugation and oppression, nor was it the founding father’s intention that they should be.
While we celebrate the progress our country has made since its creation, we must also acknowledge the tremendous work still left to do.
Thankfully also in this country’s history there are so many fighting for democracy and freedom for all that the country claims. It is the height of patriotism to continue to fight in that tradition.
