In light of the many problems at polling sites in Super Tuesday states like Texas and California, Congressional candidate Adem Bunkeddeko (D – NY-9) is calling on New York to prepare for increased turnout for the Presidential Primary in April.
“The 2020 election may be the most pivotal election of our lifetimes, and folks across the country have already been turning out in droves,” says Bunkeddeko. “Across the country, voters have waited for hours to cast their vote in this presidential primary, and New York needs to be prepared. Long wait times act as a poll tax, severely impacting participation in our working communities. It is imperative that the New York State Board of Elections be ready for a high turnout. Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy, and we need to be protecting every single New Yorker’s right to cast a ballot.”
The New York State Presidential Primary is April 28 with early voting from April 18-26.
Adem Bunkeddeko is an organizer and advocate in Central Brooklyn running for Congress in NY-9. He previously challenged incumbent Yvette Clarke in 2018, losing by less than two thousand votes. Through a career in public service, Bunkeddeko has tried to pay forward the sacrifices his family, who fled civil war in Uganda to start a life in America. He previously served on Brooklyn Community Board #8 where the people of his neighborhood have been turning for help because their elected representatives have neglected the affordable housing crisis.
