Jackson Asiku’s prospects to regain a world title shot was sealed after landing an International boxing fight against Mongolia’s Choi.
Australia-based Ugandan professional boxer, Asiku, 32, is a former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion who is now back in the United Kingdom. He fights the “Mongolian Warrior,” Choi Tseveenpurey at York Hall Arena, Bethnal Green-London, June 18. The Mongolian has had no respect for African boxers. He previously dispatched Uganda’s John “Mackey” Mukaaya, Abdu Tebazalwa and South Africa’s Harry Ramogoad in the UK.
Although, Choi with 30 wins (21 KOs) and 5 losses, know how to humble Ugandan boxers, Asiku, with 26 wins (14 KOs), 4 losses, has other ideas. “I’ve by now got the game plan; I have no reason to worry,” Asiku told The Black Star News. “I’ll go in designed for him, make out what he’s got and do what I’ve done here before.”
He added: “I can’t be compared to Mukaaya. We are both completely different fighters. I have my game plans and he does his.”
The 2000 Sydney Olympics Uganda’s representative, Asiku, will be back in the ring to regain the lost glory. He lost the IBO title to the Mexican Jhonny Gonzalez last September, in Las Vegas. He says a stellar performance this month will silence his critics.
One memorable iconic Asiku fight is the November 2009 bout, when he stopped Heriberto Ruiz in the 8th round of the 12 rounds scheduled bout for the then vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight title in Australia.
“This is the right time for Asiku to convince those doubting him; he made a commendable decision to switch back to the UK which is an atractive center for boxing,” said Danny Lutaaya, a co-partner with Spencer Fearon currently managing Asiku.
Lutaaya added: “This fight puts Jackson back into the world title, we are looking for the Commonwealth title. He has more work to prove because he is a former world champion. If he wins, it will be a huge comeback for him.”
