This past Thursday, in Jamaica, Southeast Queens, free haircuts for men at a mobile barber shop van and free manicures inside the Community Service Center were offered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield HP.
Also at the event were staff members who talked to the community about high blood pressure and hypertension prevention for American Heart Month.
Wendy Dominquez of Anthem said, “This event is not just about signing up for healthcare, we want to help improve the general health of the community with everything from Food distributions to free health screenings. More than just a haircut, barber shops have become cultural hubs, spots where friends and neighbors catch up and important issues are discussed.
“In many neighborhoods barbershops are a cornerstone of community life. They can be a network of support and a place to lift your spirits in addition to looking good.”
