Ugandan musical star Bosmic Original recently had one of his songs banned from radio play in Uganda. The song “Mac Onywalo buru” translates loosely into “From Blazing Flames to mere Ashes.” The thrust of the song is that if the late Ugandan rulers Milton Obote and Gen. Tito Okello were resurrected, both would kill themselves on account of their respective son’s close association with the country’s U.S.-backed dictator of 32 years Gen. Yoweri Museveni.

Obote’s son Jimmy Akenna is a member of parliament and married to the country’s Lands Minister Betty Amongi who is associated with the regime’s violent land-grabbing operations; Okello’s son, Oryem Henry, is the Minister of State for International Affairs in the regime.

There were reports of threats against Bosmic by regime elements after his song was banned. But rather than be silenced Bosmic has released a defiant new song called “Who Is Gone? Who Is Next?” following the recent assassination of a Ugandan Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga. The song laments the collapse of law and order in Uganda with frequent deaths by “accident, assassination and poisoning” rather than “natural death.”

In one part, Bosmic wonders whether he or Bobi Wine, another popular entertainer who is critical of dictator Museveni and is now a Member of Parliament, could be targeted next for assassination.

Here is an abbreviated version of the lyrics to “Who Is Gone? Who Is Next?”

Is it Bobi Wine?

Or Bosmic Original?

Everyday, you hear of

Accident, assassination and poisoning

Everyday, you hear of

Poisoning, assassination and accident

Our fallen heroes,

I believe your blood,

Will be a sacrifice for peace…..in Uganda

But how can people die in vain?

Without justice prevailing?
