When Can We Expect Resident Alien Season 4: Release Date & Plot

There is now a date set for the filming of Resident Alien season 4, and it may not be good news. Since its premiere in 2021, the Alan Tudyk-led sci-fi dramedy has been shown rather routinely. While the previous two seasons aired in consecutive years, season 3 of Resident Alien did not start until long after the season 2 finale. Resident Alien season 4 is confirmed. But, the wait will be longer than that between seasons 2 and 3. Continue reading to know more about the release date of Resident Alien Season 4.

The core Resident Alien group has been consistent since the show’s start. But, their great rapport hasn’t promised smooth sailing lately. Resident Alien season 3 highlighted the end of the show’s most brief run to date, prompting speculation that it will be terminated. Fortunately, that is no longer an issue. That means the enthusiasm around Resident Alien’s comeback may need to be put on hold for a while longer.

Season 4 May Not Air until 2026

The North Hollywood Buzz reports that the Resident Alien season 4 cast and team will reunite in Vancouver on December 2, 2024, to film new episodes. In the meantime, the shoot is arranged to come to a conclusion on March 31, 2025. If this timetable is followed, it may seem there is much of 2025 left. So, Resident Alien season 4 may air its first episode then. However, when searching the show’s prior changes, 2026 appears far more likely at this point.

Resident Alien season 3 supposedly finished filming in May 2023. But, the first episode didn’t premiere until April 2024, almost a year later. If Resident Alien season 4 follows this trend, we may not see Alan Tudyk’s Harry or the other Patience, Colorado, residents until March 2026. By then, it will have been about two years since season 3 concluded with “Homecoming,” setting a sad new record for the show.

Syfy produced Resident Alien seasons 1 through 3. When season 3 finished, it appeared like the show would not return, since Syfy did not seem interested in continuing with the project. Fortunately, USA Network picked up Resident Alien season 4. Some proof of Syfy’s disinterest is that season 3 was originally planned to be 12 episodes long, which would have already been a record low for the show.

Reasons for Delay in Release of Resident Alien Season 4

The SAG-AFTRA strikes hurt production. But, Syfy’s lack of interest in Resident Alien likely caused the delay in season 3. Inversely, the USA will most likely want to release season 4 of its new show as soon as feasible. As a result, the predicted two-year wait time may just be the worst-case situation.

Although most of Resident Alien season 3 fell short of the previous two seasons, its two-part finale more than made up for the rest. “Homecoming” had many huge, intriguing cliffhangers. They made the wait feel excruciatingly long. For example, season 3 of Resident Alien ended with a reveal. Its new villain is a bloodthirsty, shapeshifting killer. His tactics will provide plenty of gory drama. With Harry stranded on the Grey Aliens’ Star Wars-inspired moon ship, it’s uncertain who will step up as the hero.

Other stories, like Mike’s revelation about the Greys and Liv’s reunion with the Alien Tracker, have intriguing possibilities for the coming season. The long wait suggests USA Network wants to add more episodes. It wants the plot to run longer than eight installments. Nonetheless, the episodes created must be of significantly better quality than prior attempts. As long as Resident Alien season 4 is an upgrade rather than a step back, the anticipation will not feel as long in hindsight.
