Nikita Hand against Conor McGregor: Highlights
After Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions refused to press charges, Hand filed a civil lawsuit. The DPP said there was not enough chance of a conviction. Hand testified in-depth during the two-week trial. It was about an alleged assault at the Beacon Hotel in south Dublin after a business Christmas party. She testified that after attending the party with a companion, McGregor invited them to his apartment, where they used cocaine and drank wine. She said that early in the morning, McGregor had sexually abused her in his bedroom.
According to Hand, she said that she was menstruating and constantly told McGregor that she didn’t want to have sex with him. She said he pushed her to the bed, making her immobile, even though she had said “no” when he started kissing her. She further claimed that McGregor choked her and made fun of his UFC career by stating, “Now you know how I felt in the octagon where I tapped out three times”. Hand specified in her testimony, “I thought I would never see my child again”.
When doctors checked her the next day, they found severe bruises and injuries that matched her description. She subsequently received a PTSD diagnosis as a result of the experience. Her attorney told the court that a doctor was alarmed. He requested pictures of her injuries be taken when she was sent to a sexual assault treatment facility the day after the alleged assault. The court heard that her mortgage is in debt because she has been unable to work since because of her mental condition. The victim claimed she had to quit seeing a counselor because she could no longer afford it. She had spent over €4,000 on GP, pharmacy, and psychotherapist bills. The weeks during which the case was being heard had been a “nightmare”, she said.
Concluding remarks
Hand thanked her family and the personnel of the local rape crisis center for their support in a statement released after the verdict. She stated that she hoped that.
