The United States Supreme Court has declined to hear a post-election effort led by a Republican Congressman to overturn the election results in Pennsylvania. If the court had intervened, the votes of hundreds of thousands of Black Americans could have been disenfranchised.
The following is a statement from Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law:
“In a key victory for our democracy, our nation’s highest court has rejected a baseless attempt to alter the outcome of the 2020 election in Pennsylvania. This decision is also a key victory for Black Americans, who were the targets of this effort and many others. Black votes matter, Black voices matter, and Black Americans will not be treated as second-class citizens. We hope and expect that the Supreme Court will reject any further attempts to undermine the election.”
