On Tuesday, June 16, the December 12th Movement will host a webinar in memory of South Africa’s Soweto Uprising.
The webinar will also feature a call for Reparations and a Juneteenth Defund the Police Rally. The webinar starts at 7:00 p.m.
Panelists will include: Dr. Gerald Horne, Tikari Bioko ( Dr. Raymond Winbush) Viola Plummer, Charles Barron, Deodria Farmer-Paellmann, Kam Howard, Dr. Maulana Karenga Teleconference, Juneteenth Defund the Police Rally.
On June 16, 1976, Black school children in Soweto spearheaded a series of demonstrations that became known as the Soweto Uprising. Students protested the introduction of Afrikaans into the school curriculum. Afrikaans is a West German language and the then South African Government attempted to force a 50-50 language instruction mix.
During the Soweto Uprising upwards of 1,000 people lost their lives (and over 4,000 injured) largely students.
