YANKEES END SERIES FINALE WITH BIG WIN OVER PHILLIES

If the Yankees 11-6 loss to the Phillies Tuesday night—after a rain delay—was a hitch, then the Bronx Bombers certainly compensated for that embarrassing defeat in Wednesday’s game.

The Yanks beat the fruitless Philadelphia team 10-2 to end a possible sweep.

The afternoon game was packed with Yankee fans, and played in better weather conditions.

Yanks pitcher, Ivan Nova returned to the mound at Yankee Stadium for the first time in 14 months, and tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings in his first start since April 19, 2014. He showed no signs of limitations after having surgery last year. In the top of the first inning, he pitched a concrete no-hitter.

Philly pitcher, Cole Hamels, was no slouch, having an impressive season on the mound despite his team’s bottom place rank on the National League division card.

However, he saw pressure during the bottom of the second inning when he walked Murphy and allowed Pirela to ground to third, bringing home Young and Murphy for a 2-run lead.

Two innings later, the deal seemed to be sealed for a Yanks win as Hamel gave up hits to Gregorius, Gardner, Headley and Teixera, allowing three runs and hurtling the Yanks to a 5-0 lead.

Unfortunately, Yanks manager, Joe Girardi wasn’t around long enough to marvel over the team’s performance. By the top of the third inning, Umpire Alan Porter ejected an emotional Girardi from the game.

That absence had no effect on the Bronx Bombers winning momentum. By the 7th inning, the team drove in four more runs, giving them a firm 10-0 lead. Before the hammering was over, the Phillies would score two runs in the top of the ninth to Diego Moreno’s inadequate pitches.

A little too late to stop a victory dance by many Bomber fans in the stadium
