On February 2, 2012, 18-year-old Ramarley Graham was killed by NYPD Officer Richard Haste in the bathroom of his family’s home in front of his grandmother and 6-year-old brother after the officer unlawfully busted into his home. Soon after, a Bronx grand jury indicted Haste on two counts of manslaughter; the first indictment of an NYPD officer for killing a civilian since 2007.

In May 2013, Judge Steven Barrett dismissed the indictment due to an error made by Assistant District Attorney Nancy Borko when instructing jurors. A second grand jury decided not to re-indict Haste, but the U.S. Justice Department is reviewing the case.

Ramarley Graham would have turned 21 on April 12.
