When Tyra Patterson was 19, she falsely confessed to stealing a necklace, but thanks to Ohio’s “felony murder” laws, her false confession to robbery was converted into a confession to murder.
She was convicted of murder and spent 23 years in prison, only to re-emerge as one of the nation’s pre-eminent advocates for criminal justice reform.
