Today’s Wordle Hints and Answer for May 15 , 2025 – #1426

Welcome back, Wordlers! We’ve made it to Thursday—Thor’s Day, for all you Norse mythology buffs—and it’s time once again to tackle the latest Wordle. If you’re here, chances are you’ve either cracked the code or are desperate for a hint or two before that six-guess panic sets in. Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered.

Before we dive into today’s puzzle, let’s revisit the riddle from yesterday:

Wordle Wednesday Riddle Recap

Riddle: A husband and wife are driving at night when the car runs out of gas. The man leaves to get help, locking the doors behind him. When he returns, his wife is dead and a stranger is in the car. The doors were still locked. What happened?

Answer: The wife was pregnant. She died during childbirth while the man was gone. The “stranger” is their newborn baby. Tragic, but clever.

Now let’s get into Wordle #1426!

If you’re just looking for a gentle push in the right direction, here’s what I can offer:

  • Hint #3: It’s an emotion—and a very intense one at that.

Today’s Wordle Answer for May 15, 2025

I didn’t have the best start today. My opener was FLITE, a word I like to use now and then because it contains some high-frequency letters. Unfortunately, it only gave me one yellow letter and left 412 possible solutions on the board. Ouch.

Next up, I tried SHEAR. It helped—a little. I ended up with 26 possible solutions and now had one yellow and one green. Encouraging but not decisive.

Then came the turning point: EAGER.

Boom. All green. Game over.

It’s one of those satisfying moments where logic, luck, and pattern recognition all line up like stars in a Wordle constellation. I’d narrowed down enough possibilities to make an educated guess—and it paid off.

Wordle Bot Score

If you’re playing Competitive Wordle, here’s how my score broke down today:

  • Guessed in 3 = 1 point
  • Beat the Wordle Bot (who got it in 4) = +1 point

Total for today: +2

May Tally

  • Me: 15 points
  • Wordle Bot: 7 points

Still holding onto the lead!

Wordle Etymology

Today’s answer—EAGER—has a rich linguistic history. It comes from Middle English eagre, which meant “keen” or “sharp.” That was borrowed from Old French eigre, which itself derived from the Latin acer, meaning “sharp,” “spirited,” or “fierce.” The word originally conveyed intensity, like the sharpness of a blade or the heat of desire.

That emotional edge still lingers in the modern use of “eager.” It’s not just wanting something—it’s yearning for it.

Final Thoughts

“EAGER” was a great word—simple, emotional, and just the right amount of tricky. I love when a Wordle forces you to think not just about letter placement, but about language and meaning. Words like this make the game feel more than just a guessing exercise—it’s a mini lesson in etymology and intuition.
