Today’s Wordle Answer: GHOST
A classic word. Mysterious, chilling, and perfect for a Saturday Wordle. If you managed to guess it in three or fewer, you’re doing great. Four? Respectable. Five or more? Don’t worry—we’ve all been haunted by a tough Wordle now and then.
Wordle Analysis
Let’s break it down with my guess strategy today.
I started with the word BLOAT. It’s one of my favorite openers—broad vowel coverage and useful consonants. Today, it paid off. I landed two green tiles right away: ‘O’ in the middle and ‘T’ at the end.
My second guess was SHUNT, a word chosen more for its elimination potential than its likelihood to be correct. It introduced four fresh consonants and ruled out ‘U’ as a possible vowel. ‘S’ turned yellow, and nothing else stuck.
At this point, the board looked like this:
- _ _ O _ T
- ‘S’ is somewhere, not in the second position.
That gave me a solid direction. After cycling through possibilities in my head—SCOOT, CLOUT, SCOUR—I finally landed on a word that ticked all the boxes: GHOST.
Boom. All five letters turned green.

Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word ghost has an old and storied history. It originates from the Old English gāst, meaning “spirit” or “soul.” You can see its Germanic cousins in Old High German’s geist. Linguists link it to the Proto-Germanic gaistaz, though its ultimate Indo-European root is fuzzy. Some etymologists connect it to the concept of breath or life force, a hauntingly appropriate origin for a word tied to the afterlife.
Isn’t language weird and wonderful?
