Women’s Basketball: Notre Dame Faces Illinois In Citi Shamrock Classic On Nov. 18

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov. 16, 2023 – The Notre Dame women’s basketball team faces Illinois in the second annual Citi Shamrock Classic this Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, headlining the college basketball slate across NBC Sports this weekend.

The No. 16 Fighting Irish are 2-1 this season after defeating Northwestern, 110-52, yesterday as guards Hannah Hidalgo and Sonia Citron each scored 20+ points for a second consecutive game. Notre Dame finished 27-6 last season and earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Women’s Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 before falling to No.2-seed Maryland.

Illinois, who reached the Big Ten Tournament Finals and earned a No. 11-seed in the NCAA Women’s Tournament last season, are 2-1 this season after defeating St. Peter’s 103-33 on Wednesday.

Zora Stephenson (play-by-play), LaChina Robinson (analyst) and Isis Young (sideline reporter) will call the game live from the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. Stephenson, who called the inaugural Citi Shamrock Classic last season on NBC and Peacock, will also call Big Ten Women’s Basketball games exclusively on Peacock in 2023-24. Peacock’s exclusive slate of Big Ten’s women’s basketball begins in January and features more than 20 games this season.

Jordan Cornette hosts Saturday’s halftime coverage alongside 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year and Indiana Fever forward-center Aliyah Boston, who will make her broadcasting debut.

As part of Saturday’s Citi Shamrock Classic, NBCU Academy – a journalism training and development program designed to prepare college students and young professionals for careers in the news and media technology industry – will be on-site to host a seminar for Notre Dame and Illinois students.

Following Saturday’s Notre Dame women’s basketball game, the No. 19 Fighting Irish football team hosts Wake Forest at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock in its regular-season home finale.

Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. ET: Morehead State vs. Penn State

Penn State is 3-0 this season after defeating Saint Francis (Pa.), 83-53, on Tuesday. Sophomore guard Kanye Clary leads the Nittany Lions averaging 18.7 points per game.

Morehead State topped Mercer, 74-66, on Tuesday to improve to 2-2 on the season. Both of Morehead State’s losses this season have come to ranked opponents, falling to No. 22 Alabama on Nov. 6 and No. 2 Purdue on Nov. 10.

Calling Morehead State-Penn State from the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Penn., are Jason Knapp (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst).

Friday’s coverage begins with B1G College Countdown at 6:30 p.m. ET on Peacock, featuring Jordan Cornette and Josh Pastner.

Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. ET: USC Upstate vs. Minnesota

The Golden Gophers (2-0) are set to make their second appearance on Peacock this weekend, after defeating UTSA, 102-76, last week as part of a Peacock-exclusive tripleheader. Forwards Dawson Garcia (22 points) and Isaiah Ihnen (20) led Minnesota in the victory.

USC Upstate improved to 2-2 after topping East Carolina, 83-81, last night.

Steve Schlanger (play-by-play) will call Saturday’s game from Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minn., alongside analyst Tre Demps.

4 p.m. ET: Oregon State vs. Nebraska

Led by head coach Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 2018-19 after beating Stony brook, 84-63, yesterday.

Oregon State is 3-0 this season after defeating Appalachian State, 81-71, on Tuesday.

Oregon State-Nebraska, which is being contested from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday, will be called from by Steve Burkowski (play-by-play) and Robbie Hummel (analyst).
