(August 6, 2024 – Washington D.C.) Win With Black Women, the organization that has mobilized a groundswell of support behind Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy, responded to her decision today to tap Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate on the 2024 ticket. Governor Walz brings a wealth of experience and proven leadership, demonstrated through his effective governance during critical times, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the George Floyd protests.

Jotaka Eaddy, Founder of #WinWithBlackWomen, stated, “Governor Walz has consistently prioritized the health and safety of Minnesotans – something we know he will take to the next level as vice president. We have seen him become a strong surrogate for Vice President Harris over the last several weeks. Governor Walz has shown he is ready to stand alongside the first Black female President to support her in leading our nation. As Donald Trump and his allies continue to undermine our fundamental rights, we need leaders who can turn vision into reality and transform adversity into progress. Governor Walz will be a strong partner to Kamala Harris to counteract the dangerous political agenda of the Republicans.”

Under Governor Walz’s stewardship, Minnesota has emerged as a national leader in job growth, ranking 5th in the country, with the lowest unemployment rate nationwide. His groundbreaking $1.9 billion Local Jobs and Projects Plan has created thousands of post-pandemic jobs and delivered significant relief to small businesses and the Black community. The plan features over a billion dollars in tax relief, including a substantial $1.36 million tax cut, providing crucial support to those hit hardest by the economic challenges of the pandemic.

Governor Walz’s tenure has also been marked by his steadfast commitment to advancing social justice and protecting vulnerable communities and communities of color. Minnesota under Governor Walz’s leadership signed into the law the CROWN Act, banning discrimination based on a person’s natural hair texture, and has proclaimed April 11th-17th as Black Maternal Health Week, underscoring his commitment to the Black community. He has been a staunch advocate for women’s rights, codifying abortion protections into Minnesota law and establishing the state as a beacon for LGBTQ+ rights. His administration responded to the George Floyd protests in 2020, prioritizing and enacting critical violence prevention programs and police reforms, including bans on no-knock warrants and chokeholds, and has restored voting rights for formerly incarcerated individuals.

Governor Walz’s record of balancing fiscal responsibility with compassionate support underscores his dedication to building a resilient and thriving economy that works for all Americans. With Governor Walz on the ticket, Vice President Harris is poised to offer voters a compelling and progressive alternative for the future of America.
