Masters of The Air, a limited series from Apple Studios, made its digital entry on January 26, 2024, with the first two episodes. There were a total of nine episodes, with the remaining installments released weekly through February and March. The production, from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’s Playtone, was one of the most expensive ever with a budget of almost $250 million.
With a star-studded cast including Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Barry Keoghan, expectations for the series were very high. It powerfully showcased the sacrifices made by the 100th Bomb Group during the Second World War. As a limited series, it was designed to tell a complete, single story, but due to its popularity as one of Apple’s most-watched shows, the question of a follow-up continues to be a major topic of discussion among fans.

Masters of The Air Season 1
Season 1 of Masters of the Air tells the story of the 8th US Air Force, who were called in 1943 to fight against Nazi Germany at Thorpe Abbots Royal Air Field. The entire action takes place in the air, where the 100th Bomb Group, flying their powerful B-17 Flying Fortress bomber planes, makes their entry into enemy territory for dangerous missions. The story mainly focuses on two central characters, Majors Gale ‘Buck’ Cleven and John Egan, the two best friends. There were several other characters who were also part of this epic narrative. The series takes us on an air journey, where we witness the unity and strength of the 100th Bomb Group and the sacrifices these Americans made for their country. They also face a lot of personal challenges, and it is quite interesting to see how they grow in spite of all these personal challenges.
Has work on Masters of the Air season 2 started?
Generally, after a successful first season, streaming platforms start to advertise a second season to build excitement. While Season 1 of Masters of the Air has been extremely popular, there has been no official announcement or news about a sequel from Apple Studios as of November 19, 2024. As the series was intended as a limited series, a direct “Season 2” in the traditional sense is unlikely. There are, however, rumors about a potential new chapter in the same anthology style as Band of Brothers and The Pacific, but nothing has been confirmed.

Masters of the Air season 2
Without an official announcement, nothing can be said about a potential Season 2 with confidence, as everyone’s eyes are on Apple Studios for any news related to Masters of the Air. While a follow-up is possible, it is important to note that the executive producers, including Gary Goetzman, have indicated that they felt they had concluded their WWII trilogy with this series. Goetzman previously stated that he and his team had completed their “duty” to these WWII stories and it would be “somebody else’s turn” to take on a similar project. To maintain the theme, any new season or chapter would likely be a new story based on a different aspect of WWII aviation.
