Why Are “Small Government” Republicans Silent Now As Trump Invades Democratic Cities?

Black Star Editorial

Donald Trump has, in numerous ways, exposed the Republican Party as a bunch of partisan, party-before-country, sycophantic, hypocritical frauds. Trump’s dictatorial actions, in sending National Guard troops into Washington D.C., and into Los Angeles, with threats of doing the same in other states, like Illinois and New York, gives us an insightful illustration of the phoniness of the not so Grand Old Party.

If Republicans believed in all the lies they have told America, Donald Trump would not be in the White House now—he would be in a cell, wearing orange prison clothes, after being convicted, in his second impeachment trial, for his actions during Jan. 6, 2021. But we’ll get back to that.

Question: Haven’t Republicans repeatedly told us they believe in “limited government,” as the best form of government? Have Americans forgotten that, for decades, Republicans have been giving grandiose grandstanding lectures about the dangers of “big government,” while extolling the virtues of “states’ rights”–usually, when they are defending some racist discriminatory practice in their red cracker states.

Now, as we are witnessing what is happening, in Washington D.C., we have definitive proof that was all a bunch of Republican bull.

Does any honest American believe that if President Barack Obama had sent federal troops into red states, like say Tennessee or Louisiana, (which are among the top states in violent crime, unlike D.C) that Republicans would be as muted and muzzled as they now are? We all know the obvious answer to that.

As a Democrat, they would’ve excoriated President Obama as a dictatorial authoritarian who was pushing his liberal “big government” agenda and violating the “states’ rights” of these freedom-loving red states. Republicans would have called for Obama’s head, while pursuing his impeachment.

But now that Trump is flagrantly invading Democratic cities–run by Black mayors–these Republican frauds praise him for his unconstitutional criminal behavior. Trump’s federal troop invasion of D.C. and Los Angeles is nothing more than Republican-approved “big government” dictatorship. Somehow, we’re supposed to believe Trump’s action in D.C is about crime—and not about deflection from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal that exposes Trump’s close friendship with the pedophile that he said was a “terrific guy,” who likes them “on the younger side.”

American politicians must “put country before party,” is another phrase these holier-than-thou Republicans have repeatedly told us. Of course, that was only said when these deceitful conniving Republicans were chastising Democrats for something. “Do as I say, not as I do” perfectly describes these duplicitous Republicans who always put their GOP Party before what is best for the country. And that is one primary reason why America is now facing fascism coming from inside the Trumpian Republican Party.

If Republicans really believed in any of these things, Donald Trump would not be able to do the damage to America that he is now doing.

How many times have we heard Republicans declare that they strongly believe in the “rule of law?” But these same Republicans refused to convict Trump, in the second impeachment trial, after he incited a violent attempted coup on Congress, on Jan. 6. 2021. In reality, Republicans aided-and-abetted him in getting away with attempting to overthrow the American government.

And Republicans are now aiding-and-abetting Trump in turning America into a dictatorship.
