The Martin Luther King “We Won’t Go Back” March and Rally will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023, 2:00pm, beginning at the Martin Luther King Statue, 495 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, in Newark, NJ.
The Martin Luther King Statue is located near the corner of Springfield Avenue and Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
The event is sponsored by the People’s Organization For Progress (POP). Twenty-one grassroots organizations are endorsers of the march.
POP has held this march observing Dr King’s birthday annually for nearly 35 years. The march is being held on January 15th which is the actual birthday of Martin Luther King. The King holiday is observed this year on Monday, January 16th.
“The forces racism, white supremacy, and fascism in this country are trying to drag us backward to an era before the Civil Rights Movement and even the New Deal. We are marching on January 15th to let them know that we won’t go back,” stated Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress.
