Walmart Recalls 850,000 Water Bottles Over Hazardous Lids
Walmart is recalling 850,000 stainless steel water bottles. The lids can fly off and hit you. Two people lost their vision after the lids hit them in the eyes. The bottles offered for purchase at Wal-Mart stores across the length and breadth of the United States since 2017 put a label having “Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle” on it. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, such bottles could have caused serious-impact and laceration hazards.

A silver stainless steel base with an Ozark Trail logo engraved on its side is visible. The lid, by itself, has a one-part black screw cap with no pattern. Model number 83-662 appears just on the original packaging, not on the bottle.
Walmart and Manufacturer Respond to Recall
According to Walmart, customer safety is the utmost priority. They worked with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission during the recall. Walmart confirmed that they had notified customers and pulled the product from all stores. Olympia Tools International Inc. in Covina, California, manufactured these bottles in China.

Walmart and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) want to tell customers to immediately stop using the Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles included in the recall.

Walmart said:
“Customer safety is our top priority. We have worked with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer to remove this product from the shelves and notify customers.”

The recall applies to water bottles with printing bearing model number 83-662, which is indicated on the packaging only, but never on the bottle.
The product is a serious hazard: when carbonated drinks, food, juice or milk sit inside too long, the lid can eject forcefully upon opening and hit you in the face.
Walmart has received 3 injury reports. In 2 of those cases, the users suffered permanent vision loss after being hit in the eye.
The bottles were made in China and imported by Olympia Tools International Inc. (Covina, CA) and Walmart Inc. (Bentonville, AR).
