The United Nations has issued a warning about the alarming food and health emergencies gripping the nation of Sudan, particularly as cases of cholera rise in the town of Tawila, in north Darfur.

These concerns are taking place amid the backdrop of the unrelenting fighting taking place between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudan’s military. The RSF was formerly a part of Sudan’s military.
The United Nations Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, stated that “nearly 60 per cent of displaced families still lack adequate shelter support.”
In the Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher, in Darfur, four deaths related to hunger were reported last week, amid severe shortages of food are medicine. Hunger continues to increase across the nation.
In Tawila, the cases of cholera continue to increase. Over 1,500 confirmed and suspected cases were reported in June. More than 500 people are now receiving treatment.
Humanitarian organizations have requested $120 million to be used for life-saving measures over the next couple months. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that “This funding is essential to contain the outbreak and sustain critical services.”
