As we approach the eight year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida — one of the deadliest mass shootings in the history of the United States, today we wanted to pull the curtain back on the true toll of America’s gun violence epidemic.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, as of June 5, 2024 — just 157 days into 2024 — there have been:

  • 198 mass shootings (defined as a minimum of four victims shot)
  • 13,324 gun-related injuries
  • More than 7,100 victims (includes both mass and non-mass shootings)1

This comes on the heels of a particularly violent 2023 that saw more than 656 mass shootings with 18,854 deaths.

Common-sense gun legislation has been proven time and time again to save lives. The refusal of Republicans to pass legislation to address this violence is utterly despicable.

Students and teachers shouldn’t feel unsafe going to school. Concert and moviegoers shouldn’t be looking for the nearest exit. All of us have a right to feel safe in our communities.

This month and every month, we’re working to end gun violence. And this election year, we have the opportunity to make critical progress.

We’re putting all of our energy into organizing and into ensuring we elect gun safety candidates up and down the ballot.

But we’ll need your help to keep up the momentum.
