Trump petitioned

We have petitioned President Trump and the U.S. Congress:

· To suspend U.S. military and financial aid to Uganda which is sustaining Museveni’s corrupt and brutal dictatorship.

· To re-consider U.S. diplomatic relations with Museveni who is holding on power by stealing elections.

United States cannot be the champion of democracy while at the same time propping up corrupt tyrants such as Museveni with U.S. military and financial aid.

We are calling upon President Donald J. Trump to cut off U.S. support to a corrupt dictator such as Museveni who has overstayed in power for 31 years during which time he has destroyed the country and is killing innocent people.

For the past 31 years, hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been killed in Uganda and the neighboring countries at the orders of Museveni. As a self-declared president for life, whoever challenges him is either tortured or killed.

Uganda’s economy, infrastructure and essential services have been destroyed while Museveni, his family and their cronies are stealing every penny that trickles into the country. Uganda’s education and health services are miserably eroded.

Museveni has repeatedly rigged elections and manipulated the Uganda Constitution in order to stay in power. The most recent rigging was in February, 2016 which was witnessed by international observers including U.S. officials.

On January 26, 2017 dictator Museveni declared: “I am not a servant, because this is what some people have been saying, that I should be a servant of Ugandans. I am not a servant of anybody. I am a freedom fighter. I am not employed by the country. I am fighting for myself and for my beliefs. If anybody thinks that he employed me, he is deceiving himself.”

Prior to that, President Museveni was interviewed on November 12, 2015 by Jeff Koinange in Nairobi, Kenya on Capital Talk TV program. In response to Mr. Koinange’s question, Museveni said, “I am working for myself. I am not working for other people. I am working for my grandchildren. I am working for my children.”

You may recall that during Idi Amin’s reign of terror the U.S. suspended foreign aid and cut off trade with Uganda until Idi Amin was overthrown. The U.S. economic embargo worked and effectively weakened Amin’s regime causing it collapse.

I worked very closely with the late Congressman Don J. Pease (D-OH) and other lawmakers of both parties on Capitol Hill to enact that legislation.

It is a fact; Museveni’s dictatorship is sustained by American military and financial support.

The U.S. has a special leverage which can be applied to bring about the needed political changes and improve the lives of people in Uganda. Peace-loving Ugandans are ready to work with the U.S. and other countries to re-establish democracy, promote economic development and human rights in Uganda.
