MOUNT VERNON — United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain today took to X to share his support for Congressman Jamaal Bowman, and amplify the need to implement President Biden’s progressive tax policy nationwide.

Fain’s full message read: “The UAW fights for economic justice from the bargaining table to the ballot box. We need leaders Jamaal Bowman who will fight for the wealthy to pay their fair share! We can’t keep electing people who are too scared to stand up to the billionaires.”

Additionally, Fain’s post included a screenshot of a May 30, 2024 New York Times story, where reporter Jonathan Weisman wrote that “George Latimer… could be a thorn in President Biden’s side if both men are elected. He told a Westchester County newspaper he was “not signing on to raising taxes” on the wealthy, as Mr. Biden wants.”

From UAW to DC37 to 1199 SEIU to NYSNA, labor unions local and national have long been backing Bowman’s campaign, and have been strong partners in his fight for fair wages, affordable housing, and more. From Leader Jeffries to Senator Bernie Sanders to dozens of community organizations, Bowman’s big tent Democratic coalition is strong, and deeply shares his vision of fighting for working families nationwide.

Congressman Jamaal Bowman was an educator and advocate for public schools for over 20 years and previously served as principal for the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action (CASA), a public middle school he founded in 2009 in the Baychester neighborhood of The Bronx. Rep. Bowman is a life-long New Yorker who lives in Yonkers with his wife and children.
