A New York Times’ story Tuesday cites a draft government watchdog report that says Trump’s Justice Department was a “driving force” behind the administration’s child family separation practice.

The American Civil Liberties Union had successfully sued and blocked the administration from continuing its cruel practice of ripping children from their parents at the border.

Lee Gelernt is the lead ACLU attorney on this case and had the following reaction to Tuesday’s report:

“That the Justice Department would not even agree to refrain from separating babies is shocking. This latest report confirms once again that this was easily one of the cruelest immigration practices in the history of this country. This was child abuse, plain and simple.”
