WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday, crews were spotted installing large banners on the facade of the Department of Justice building in Washington D.C. displaying the face of President Donald Trump and the slogan, “Make America Safe Again.”
Public Citizen Co-President Lisa Gilbert issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump is laughing at the idea that the Justice Department is independent of the White House. It is an incredible affront to our democracy to display the president’s face on one of the most sacred U.S. judicial buildings. It’s also beyond satirical that Trump, who is at the center of numerous current court cases and was convicted of numerous felonies, is splashing his face on the exterior of the Department of Justice. But this is par for the course for Trump, who appointed his own personal attorney, Pam Bondi, as attorney general.
“This is also not the first time Trump has put his face or name on a building to stake claim on an agency, department or even a memorial that really belongs to the American people. It’s a true mark of a wannabe dictator. These banners, and similar ones displayed on government buildings across the district, should be removed immediately. In the U.S., we have no supreme rulers, no kings and no dictators.”
